Of Thorns and Roses

Our happiness depends on our perception of the world. How you answer the old question, “Is the glass half full or half empty”  really does matter It is amazing how I can turn my misery switch on and off and my joy button on and off. It really does matter how I view the world. It is a matter of taking a step back and looking at the big picture.

Do I choose to squint and focus on the thorns or do I step back and see the beauty of the entire bush. Do I focus on every miserable detail that goes wrong or do I step back and thank God for everything that is right with it.

I am alive, healthy, not living on the street. I have a computer, two hands with all my fingers to type and time to write for the first time in three decades. Just a glance up into the sky above me can fill me with awe if I only take my eyes off the tiny slivers in my hand and allow the beautiful gift of God to inflame my heart with wonder.

About these ads

Melanie Jean Juneau is a petite wife, writer and mother of nine children. When the words "The Joy of Mothering on a Hobby Farm" popped into her head as a subtitle for her short stories it was like an epiphany for her because those few words verbalized her experience living with little people. The very existence of a joyful mother of nine children seems to confound people. Her writing is humorous and heart warming; thoughtful and thought provoking with a strong currant of spirituality running through it. Part of her call and her witness is to write the truth about children, family, marriage and the sacredness of life, especially a life lived in God. 1. Always choose the Half Empty because it still offers Unlimited Opportunities of what of Life you can fill it with. The Half Full has already used up all it’s potential.

The only thing that could kill you living with nine kids is pairing socks.
