Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.
When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives means the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand.
Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.
Friendship… is not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything.
Friendship day was originally founded by Hallmark in 1919 as a day for people to celebrate their friendship by sending each other cards, but by 1940 this tradtion disappeared, probably a causualty of WWII. In 1998 Winnie the Pooh was named the world’s Ambassador of Friendship at the United Nations ; in April 2011 the United Nations officially recognised 30th July as International Friendship Day but most countries celebrate on the first Sunday of August!
According to the Friendship Day declaration, we are invited to :
“observe this day in an appropriate manner, in accordance with the cuture and other appropriate circumstances or customs of their local, national and regional communities, including through education and public awareness-raising activities”.
What better way than to let Winnie the Pooh speak first.
Wear a smile and have friends; wear a scowl and get wrinkles.
A true friend freely, advises justly, assists readily, adventures boldly, takes all patiently, defends courageously, and continues a friend unchangeably.
