Last year I wrote 15 things about me in response to a challenge on BlogHer and I have recycled snippets from that same article ever since. So, to prove that I am really not that predictable and boring I have rooted around in my brain for 5 other amusing facts about me.
1. My name is Melanie JEAN Juneau on the web because there happens to be a Melanie Birthing Centre in Juneau, Alaska!! Google finds this similarity much too confusing, so it is Melanie Jean Juneau, which makes me seem like a southern belle. In reality, I am a tiny but hardy Canadian, an English major with an extensive vocabulary who drives her kids crazy.
2 .I have lived with children under the age of 18 for 33 years. I have raised 9 children on a hobby farm. When I first became a mother, I tried to do everything around the house that I had done before I became a mother. Even though I was an acrobatic, multi-tasked woman, becoming a mother forced me to evolve and adapt. I finally capitulated and grudgingly accepted the fact that what was essential was clean clothes, clean little bodies, a clean kitchen and bathrooms–period. Most anything else I liked to keep up was to give visitors a good impression. Basically mothering taught me to let go of everything but the essentials and to live simply.
.3. I love creating something out of nothing, an article on a blank screen, a beautiful garden from a handful of seeds and a patch of bare earth, a delicious meal out of a leftovers and a beautiful crocheted sweater with a hook and some yarn. So naturally I have morphed into a crocheting grandma. Although I have crocheted queen size bedspreads, Afghans and wedding shawls I have just discover patterns for clothes and I am inspired and perhaps even a bit obsessed with all the new possibilities. AND the things I am crocheting are turning out very well and even fit real little bodies. My adult kids are stunned,”Do you know this would sell for $50″
4. Blogging set my gift of writing free. It was like an invisible barrier slowly melted, allowing my imagination to bubble up in a stream of written words that felt just as exhilarating as my oral tradition. I was excited to start sharing written stories with other people, people who would read them, respond, comment and give me feed back on what I had written. I finally can say that I am a writer and even an author and columnist with published articles on various online sites. Now to figure out how to make a living by writing! Oh and I am working on a book. ..well isn’t everybody?”””””
5. I am a soul who is living in a body. I do not have a soul..I AM a soul..( quote from C.S. Lewis). And I have a gift of being able to connect heart to heart, spirit to spirit with babies. When I look at them, they know, that I know that they are not idiots but souls with innate wisdom who are able to communicate their needs to me.
